Meet Karina, International Student

UNLV has a community of international students from all over the world. Students come from Japan, China, Spain, Mexico, England, and so many other places come to study here. We have a large population of students who travel to study in our Hospitality College, as it ranks #1 in the entire world. Other students simply come to UNLV to learn more about American culture and gain/further an education. Among this diverse population of students is Karina Carrillo. Karina is a student from Ecuador, and she has a few things she would like to share with you all:

Hey!

My name is Karina; I am an international student from Ecuador. I just wanted to say I am so grateful for all the experiences and lifetime friendships that I have acquired at UNLV. I have met people that truly care about me and made me feel like home.

The environment is always important when it comes to one’s development and academic performance. A core of college life is to surround yourself with positive and productive people that you can learn from in your field of study and in general. When I just came here I was so excited, but also nervous because I did not know what was it like to be on a completely different country and living on my own. I also had a hard time to decide what school I wanted to go to, but I am really glad I chose UNLV. I cannot imagine being anywhere else.

There are so many opportunities for you to learn and improve. After living 2 years here, I was still nervous about speaking in public, but the current job I am in has helped me so much to improve my language skills and overcome that fear which was constraining me. I am sure that if you decide to come here you will not be disappointed and will enjoy your college experience at the fullest.

Like Karina, international and domestic students have the opportunity to make the most of their time here at UNLV. Having met and worked with Karina, I appreciate how much I can learn from her and how passionate of a person she is. There are so many more students like Karina at UNLV, we hope you join us soon!
