The Greatest Organization to Ever Be

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be involved in your college community? Well from my experience, it can lead to making some of the most exciting memories of your life! Some students go to class, get lunch, and then go home. Although there's nothing inherently wrong with this, solely focusing on the academic aspects of college means you're missing out on countless other opportunities to enrich your college experience.

My name is JT Fehner and I want to share with you all my experience with The Greatest Organization to Ever Be. I started college right after high school and I was looking to get involved. Eager as ever, I went to UNLV's Involvement Fair, a day for organizations to table and represent themselves to the student body. I walked away from it with information about several different groups that fit my interests, but none of them stood out above the others. Looking back on it, I'm not even sure I would have attended any of the organizations' meetings. But later that night a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go with them to a meeting for a club on campus. That club was called the Rebel Events Board.

Little did I know that on that night I was signing myself up for a five year ride of some of the best times of my life. The Rebel Events Board, also known as REB, is an organization on campus that plans free social events for students. And not to brag, but they're some of the biggest and best events that this school has ever seen. The best way to describe REB is to compare it to student council in high school, but with more focus on the event planning side as opposed to the student government side. From Premier UNLV to Homecoming to Foodie Fest, we do it all! We're students planning events for students, and I think that's one of the coolest things ever. My experience with this organization has been eventful to say the least. I have learned so much through the leadership positions I've held, I've planned events that I'll remember forever, and I've made some of the best friends of my life. My time in REB has been nothing short of amazing.

I started as a general member of the organization, then I became an intern, and a semester or so after that I worked myself into one of the executive board positions! I joined as a freshman and have been with this organization every step of the way during my time in college.

Now that I'm a senior, it's with great pride that I'm able to say that I recently became the president of REB. It has really been a full circle experience because I'm now leading a team that I used to just be an eager, starry-eyed general member of. If there's one thing I want you to take away from this article, it's that you should find your place here at UNLV. REB has always been my home away from home because of the people I've met and the memories I've made. There are so many organizations here at UNLV with great people, and I implore you to put yourself out there and find one that makes your college experience so much better than you could ever imagine. I hope you all are able to find your home away from home.
