My Experience With Greek Life
There are decisions that seem difficult but can truly change our lives, and there are decisions that seem quite simple but can also impact our lives in ways we could have never imagined. Becoming a Rebel was an easy decision for me. There are so many amazing events at UNLV like Late Night Breakfast and I'm a Big Rebel Now, our football games are held in an NFL Stadium, and there's tons of nearby festivals and activities to experience like Life is Beautiful. There is truly never a dull moment on this campus.

But I knew that I wanted more out of my college experience, so my junior year I decided to join a sorority. This wasn't the easiest decision to make, but I'm so glad I decided to take that jump because it changed my life for the better. All I was hoping for was to make some friends and improve my last couple years on campus, and not only did I meet those goals, I exceeded them. I have made lifelong friends, improved my gpa, and grown as a person. I have had the pleasure to serve in leadership positions within my chapter as well as on the Panhellenic Council, and I even helped co-found a Greek honor society.
I really wasn't sure if joining a sorority was something I wanted to do, but after meeting some of the girls from my chapter at a recruitment event and making cards for a children's hospital, I knew I wouldn't regret joining. I was shy my first semester in the chapter, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and start taking on positions. By my third semester I had helped plan and execute our philanthropy event, put on a celebration for new members, and even earned a position on the executive board. Though it may not have been something I was interested in at first, joining a sorority has been one of the most beneficial experiences I've had during my time at UNLV.

Greek life is truly what you make of it, so what you put in, is what you'll get out of it. Take the risk, put yourself out there, and you'll see that it's worth it. There is a great Fraternity & Sorority Life office, as well as support systems for chapters, that offer unlimited opportunities to create a positive environment for all types of students. UNLV Greek life may not have the typical fraternity or sorority experience, but it is truly a community like no other. There are philanthropic events to raise money for charities, formals and socials to attend with your friends, and many more events to experience in such a short amount of time.
I took the risk of putting myself out there and joining a sorority, but from that I have gained a community and made friendships that I will treasure for the rest of my life.
