Worried about New Student Orientation? Here's what you need to know!

New Student Orientation (NSO) is an event for newly admitted students of UNLV to get acclimated to the UNLV community and learn more about their upcoming transition to the university. Students will mingle with other students in similar academics majors, learn more about academic and social resources on campus, and meet with their academic advising center to learn more about their college and programs. There are a few things students should know about NSO, here they are!

Who is required to go?

First-Year Students

First-Year students are required to attend NSO! As a first-year student, your advising center will build your first semester schedule prior to Orientation and you will have a chance to talk with them at NSO. You will also meet with students from similar academic majors and learn about resources on campus that will encourage personal and professional success at UNLV. Being a first year student can be a bit overwhelming, but by attending NSO, students are given the opportunity to get their questions, answers, and nerves curbed.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are not required to attend NSO, but it is highly recommended. At transfer NSO, students learn more about the transfer experience. They have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choice: ranging from UNLV 101 to transfer credit evaluation to getting involved. There will not be new student advising provided at NSO for transfer students, thus it is required for transfer students to meet with their academic advising center outside of NSO. For a list of advising contact information visit: https://www.unlv.edu/advising/centers

Campus Tour

There will be a general campus tour provided at every NSO session. This gives students a chance to walk around campus with their Orientation Leader and get a feel for it for the very first time.

Registration and Program

Registration will be available early to mid-April on your MyUNLV to-do list. There will be NSO dates throughout the summer on Fridays and Saturdays from the end of May to early August. If you are unable to attend any of the dates given to you, contact orientation@unlv.edu for more information.

How to Register

Registration will be through your MyUNLV on your to-do list. There will be a link that you can follow to choose and confirm your NSO session. It is important that you make it to the end of registration to ensure your register correctly and successfully. If you have any questions or concerns, contact orientation@unlv.edu and an Orientation staff member will further assist you.
