Guardian Angels: Academic Advisors

Believe it or not, you can’t make it through college alone. It requires strategy, communication, and probably some, or a lot, of tears. You may be asking yourself:

“What am I going to do with this degree?”

“Is this even what I want to do?”

“Is college even for me?”

Academic advisors hear this ALL. THE. TIME.

A New Chapter

College is a lot different than high school. You have to pick out your classes and register for them. Like most students, you probably have questions:

How do you know if you’re on track to graduate?

What if you want to add a minor?

A second major?

Switching majors?

This is where academic advisors come in. Each advisor is knowledgeable about fields you may want to study. They know about the degrees offered and can help you figure out your academic life and future career. These people are essentially scheduling gurus who have multiple connections on campus. If you are interested in a different field of study, or research, most of the time they can help put you in touch with someone who can help you. If you are interested in a specific class, they will help you see if the classes can be used toward your degree.

Your Own Guardian Angels

These guardian angels have so much they can show you. Ideally. you should visit them at least once a semester to make sure you are on track and your goals are being reached. Academic advisors are here for you, and only you. If you want to be a doctor, psychologist, social worker, etc., they are there to help you do that. Do not wait until your last semester when you’re ready to graduate to see them. Make sure to establish a connection with them and constantly stay in touch, updating them on your current academic status. After a few years of them seeing your goals and ambitions grow, they can even write you a great letter of recommendation.

Your college experience is what you make of it, so go out and do everything your heart desires, just make sure you visit and update your academic advisors so they know what you’re up to!
