Greek Life Philanthropy

This is the final post about Greek Life at UNLV. These posts will give you all the information that you need in order to begin your journey towards your chosen fraternity or sorority. These posts are written by (at the time of posting) current Greek Life participants.

When people think of Greek life, it is easy for them to have the wrong idea in mind. This common perception comes from the stereotype blasted across almost any college movie. However, this is simply not the case. Greek organizations’ presence on campus at UNLV all work hard all year long. These organizations especially work to support a philanthropy by raising and donating money for their cause. Philanthropies are very fun events that bring out people to help support a cause! Here, I will be discussing what these organizations do to support their communities.

Fraternities and sororities have a major presence on campus at UNLV. Often times, their philanthropies are day or week long events where people can participate in fun events. During these events, organizations who choose to participate are split into teams based on their organizations. Through doing this, a little friendly competition is introduced to make things interesting and fun. Points gain usually be gained in multiple ways such as races, t-shirt sales, or auctions! It is also important to keep in mind that points usually track how much is being donated to the hosting organizations philanthropy.

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, and Greek life makes it easy. Through Greek life, you are able to work with many organizations. For example, you have the opportunity to host your own philanthropy and raise money for your own organization, and also get to participate and raise money for other organizations on campus! Some of the philanthropic organizations our Greek community supports are Feeding America, Ronald McDonald House, Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Judes Childrens Hospital, and many others. Therefore, anyone and everyone can find an organization they want to support. Who wouldn’t want to go out and have a fun filled day of events with other Greek life organizations while supporting a good cause?
