Hire a Rebel & SSC Involvement
This is the second of ten posts in the RSO & Work series. This series will take a deep dive into all things that UNLV can offer; Registered Student Organization and working on campus. See just how involved you can get on campus!
It has never been easier to get involved than with an on campus job. UNLV uses the Hire A Rebel program to find students who are actively seeking employment and want to stay near/on campus. These listings range greatly but being able to make extra cash on the side or being able to apply this money to your education’s tuition as well as textbooks required for your classes is a few of the many things that this program can provide you with. Alongside the SSC complex which helps students with all things related to job success at an entry level or something higher, students are encouraged to join the variety of jobs that UNLV provides. All the worries you might have about employment are soon to be the past.
Career Services - The first job interview, you are nervous, palms sweaty, wondering how you got here in the first place. This ALL could have been avoided through your inquiry of the Career Services, on the second floor of SSC-A. Career Services provide many tools to their students to ensure success in the careers or even just side jobs they want to get. First and foremost, they are able to help you build a strong resume, essential to majority of jobs, and alongside this they are adept at mock interviews to test and build upon the weaknesses in your response. Formal attire is also not a hassle as they are able to connect you with locations that may have formal attire available at cheaper prices than most retail locations. Other things that the career services may help with include career choices, the aforementioned job offers/resume building/cover letters, they can also assist with job offers that may arise around town and also play involvement in terms of connections after graduation/graduate college. One appointment can be the beginning of a series of success for your future and it all starts here.
Connecting this all together with Hire a Rebel, student involvement, as always, is encouraged greatly and being able to connect yourself with a job whether that be for now, or your main career path is equally essential. To be able to be given the tools to success beyond a short-term goal, the Career Services truly is a hidden gem in the rough. Be sure to make an appointment soon whether that be to stay on track for your career path and job opportunities, or even if you are just looking for a summer job to rake in some extra mula.
