FAFSA and the Priority Deadline
Hi everyone! This is Elizabeth again, and I have come to post a final reminder about the FAFSA priority deadline. If you would like to receive priority consideration for need-based financial aid and scholarships, you must submit your application by November 1, 2020. You can still fill out an application after this deadline; however, funding may be limited. But, what is the FAFSA? The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows college students to apply for government funding. It determines your eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans. Who, where, when to apply. You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and enrolled in an eligible degree or certification program at your college to apply. Start your application: fafsa.gov. The FAFSA opens every year on October 1 and closes on June 30. Everyone should apply, even if you don't think you qualify for financial aid – you might be surprised. But, do not stress if you're not eligible for the FAFSA! There are other ways to help you pay for college too. Learn more at: unlv.edu/finaid/daca. Things you'll need to apply. You must have your Social Security Number, your driver's license (or a state-issued ID if you do not have a license yet), your 2019 tax return and those of your parents if you are a dependent (the tax returns needed will always be the ones filed from the year before), and any records of untaxed income and assets. You must complete and submit it every single year to receive your award package (AKA how much money you are eligible for) for the following academic school year. If it is your first time applying, you must create a Financial Student Aid (FSA) ID, which will allow you to log in and complete an application. It might take a couple of days for your FSA ID to be confirmed, so I recommend creating your ID a few days before October 1. Your parent will also need an FSA ID if you are a dependent.
